The Mogoro are one of the oldest races still active within the Horizon Lands. They are known for being knowledgeable and wise, an other races frequently seek them out for their intelligence and insight.

Physical Description
mogoro_resize.pngThe Mogoro are a strange race. They are of small stature, rarely standing taller than 4ft. They are genderless, with flesh compose of a dense, spongy matter and supported by hardened woody growths. Their internal organs are strange fungal nodes and growths. Coloration is typically pale white with patches of vibrant red, orange, blue or violet, patterned with with spots. Their eyes are dark glassy orbs in their faces and the number vary from individual (with 1,2, or 3 eyes being most common). Their bodies are frequently asymmetrical in a way disturbing to the eyes of other races and they often support secondary colonies of mushrooms, puffballs and mosses on their skin.

Mogoro are primarily nocturnal. They typically do not eat, preferring to take their sustenance directly from the soil. However, they can ingest normal food, but have a minimal sense of taste and would be just as content to eat slop as they would the finest cuisine.

Mogoro propagate by incubating spores upon their bodies. Only Moguren older than 100 have this ability. Once these spores reach the right maturity, they are planted in a dark, moist place where they can grow. it takes typically 3 years of incubation before the adolescent Mogoro is capable of sapience and movement. Once this stage is reached, the young Mogoro is then raised by a Mentor (often, not not always the same Mogoro that spawned them) as part of an extended Mogoro community. A Mogoro is not considered an adult until at least their 50th year.

The Mogoro culture has a great sense of tradition. Their capacity for racial memory allows them to preserve cultural rites that are millennia old. They observe an age-based hierarchy, where the younger defer to the oldest in nearly all matters. However, the Mogoro are intensely curious, and most are eager to share new discoveries and ideas with the rest of the community.


Alignment & Religion
Mogoro are long lived, and can often all upon the experiences of those who came before them. This perspective gives them a strong tendency towards neutrality. They also consider generosity and kindness to be virtues, making most good as well.
Most Mogoro are non-religious, but recognize many nature spirits. Those who do adopt a faith typically prefer loose forms of nature worship.

The Mogoro are intelligent and contemplative, and have a preference for spell casting. They gravitate to the nature magic of Druids and Shamans, but Wizardry and Witchcraft are also common. More martial and skill oriented Mogoro are typically Monks or Rangers.

Small Size Plant (Fungal, Mogoro) Mogoro gain a +1 size bonus to their AC, a +1 size bonus on attack rolls, a –1 penalty on combat maneuver checks and to their CMD, and a +4 size bonus on Stealth checks.
Slow Speed: Mogoro have a base speed of 20 feet.
Low Light Vision: Mogoro can see twice as far as a human in poor lighting.
Darkvision:Mogoro can see in the dark up to 60 feet.
Ancestral Wisdom: Mogoro have a well developed powers of recollection, and can recall events and lessons from a deep well of racial memories. Mogoro treat all Knowledge skills as class skills
Fungal Metabolism (Ex) Mogoro breathe, but they do not eat or sleep in the typical manner.
A Mogoro gains all the sustenance it requires from contact with moist natural earth, but it must rejuvenate itself as often and for as long as humans need sleep. As long as it is in contact with moist natural earth, a resting Mogoro regains hit points at twice the normal rate (2 hit points per Hit Die for each day of rest).
Life Bonded: Mogoro gain a +2 racial bonus on all saving throws made to resist death effects, saving throws against negative energy effects, Fortitude saves made to remove negative levels, and Constitution checks made to stabilize if reduced to negative hit points.
Light Sensitivity: Mogoro are adapted to the dark and are are dazzled in areas of bright sunlight or within the radius of a daylight spell.
Vulnerability: The spongy flesh of the Mogoro is particularly susceptible to heat and flame. Mogoro have Vulnerability – Fire.

Aging Effects: Adult 50 Middle Age 175 Old 250 Venerable 350 Maximum 350+ 4d% years
Languages: Mogoro begin play speaking the Mogoro language and at least one human language.

Alternative Racial Traits

•Resilient Body (ex): The Mogoro’s spongy tissue make it difficult for attackers to strike a telling blow. The Mogoro has 15% chance to ignore critical hits made against them. This replaces Life Bonded.

•Spore Breath (ex): 1/day—These Mogoro have a breath weapon that is a 5-foot cone of spores. The spores deals 1d4 points of acid damage per two character levels (maximum 5d4) and sickens creatures in the area for 3 rounds. A successful Reflex saving throw (DC 10 + 1/2 the Mogoro’s level + the Mogoro’s Constitution modifier) halves the damage and negates the sickened effect. This replaces the Low Light vision.
